FEW FOR THE MANY.

Alleviate Homelessness

Richland County has the 2nd largest number of people experiecing homelessness in the state. As a volunteer at Transitions, the Rapid Shelter, and HomelessNoMore, I have seen that our unhoused population is ignored or even penalized for being on the streets. As a state, we need to fund additional capacity for the existing shelters to accommodate both homeless youth and veterans. We also need to address the underlying mental health afflictions and barriers to job reintegration for this population, which would be a priority of mine as a state legislator.

Support the Working-Class

District 72 has approximately 35.5% of residents living under the poverty line. This is unacceptable. As a state legislator, I will make it a priority to raise the minimum wage, establish paid parental leave, resolve the wage gap, and increase the efficiency of our affordable housing assistance programs. I will ensure that you no longer have to work multiple jobs to put food on the table or a roof over your head.
