MEET TATE

IMG_3934.jpg

Tate is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He moved to Charleston, SC in 2016 and then came to Columbia, SC in January 2023. Tate has always been connected to SC with his parents being born in Greenville, SC. Tate has a twin brother, Jack, who has Down Syndrome. Jack is very special to Tate, and growing up together has made Tate a positive, compassionate, and driven individual. His relationship and experiences with Jack are part of Tate's inspiration for ensuring that all citizens of this great state are heard, cared for, and have someone advocating for their needs.

Tate is currently a law student at the University of South Carolina School of Law and he is heavily involved in the Pro-Bono program, the International Law Society, and the LGBTQ+ working group. Tate has also worked as a Legislative Assistant at the SC State House during the 2023-2024 Session.

Being a community activist and volunteer is what inspired him to run for office. Through his experience, he has seen first-hand that homelessness has not been addressed, even though our district has a substantial unhoused population. Tate currently works to remove barriers through legal clinics that provide driver's license reinstatements, expungements, and social benefit renewal. In doing so, those experiencing homelessness are that much closer to achieving a stable job. Tate has also seen that many in the district struggle to afford the cost of living. The available jobs do not reflect the current market when inflation is accounted for, which is why Tate is a strong advocate for raising the minimum wage.

He believes the only way we will preserve our basic rights is to be a strong advocate in pushing back against the status quo.
